Tutoring
I provide tutoring, I like to call it “mentoring” in the following areas:
IEW Institute for Excellence in Writing, math instruction in Algebra and below, literature and study skills. Contact me at hello@edsplosion.com.
I believe in the classical mode of education, rooted in the great books, but my approach is non-traditional and student interest led. If a student is not ready or interested in the course of study, I or anyone else cannot teach them anything that will not disappear immediately after the test. The vast majority of students have been conditioned to be spoon fed information, not search out knowledge for themselves. Once you learn how to learn, nothing will be beyond you and you will only need occasional guidance from a top performer (notice I did not say expert) in your field of interest. I use Socratic questioning to lead a student to exercise their own analytical skills to discover truths as well as flaws in their logic.
FIND YOUR PEOPLE
I encourage any self-directed learner to find a group of like minded people to grow with. Finding this group is itself a life skill. Ben Franklin had the “Junto”, CS Lewis had the “Inklings”, because growth happens in community. You need like minded peers to bounce ideas, problems and new knowledge off of, share struggles and victories. This is an ancient truth but I love the way Cervantes phrases it in the first modern novel Don Quixote (1605)
“Tell me your company, and I will tell you what you are.”
